Herts and Essex
The Herts & Essex HomeOption scheme covers six district and borough councils and handles more than a 120,000 bids a year from 17,250 housing applicants.
The scheme works on a fortnightly bid cycle and produces a free sheet called Home Option, which carries all the available properties for letting. In the last year Home Option carried nearly 3,000 adverts leading to some 2,263 completed lets.
The scheme went live in November 2007 and accepts bids via its website, through the post, on the telephone or by text message.
Each of the six Local Authority areas, together with CHP – the scheme’s Housing Association partner – have their own Allocations Scheme which includes prioritising applicants by a banding or points based system.
